Piper Sonoma Blanc de Blanc

Piper Sonoma Blanc de Blanc
After years of Blanc de Noir bubbly, Piper Sonoma is switching over to Chardonnay grapes. The winery’s first-ever Blanc de Blanc release hit stores in May after a March preview tasting in San Francisco. This California sparkling wine is made in the méthode champenoise, using premium grapes and reserve wines. Since the vines themselves are very young in comparison to those of France’s official Champagne region, winemaker Raphael Brisbois has wisely played up the fruit’s youthful qualities to create a fresh, snappy, green-apple-y wine. Though it won’t take the place of vintage Dom anytime soon, this is the stuff a thousand Bellinis and Mimosas are made of… particularly given the $17 price tag.
