“90210″ up and coming star Annalynne McCord proved it is definitely possible that vegan can be super stylish. The actress, who attended the Joseph Abboud Watch Collection Launch at the Sunset Tower Hotel in West Hollywood, literally “went green” with her handbag choice.
The forest green clutch is made by the Chicago based accessory company 1154 LILL Studio. LILL prides itself on providing customers the option to custom-tailor handbags to their specific tastes including exterior and interior fabric choice.

The ERINN Clutch

McCord’s choice, named ERINN, was actually inspired by actress Jennifer Garner and is 100% vegan made. She paired the bag’s Onyx Honeycomb print fabric with a head-to-toe camel ensemble, dark blazer and chain strap pumps. We think her whole look screams “Vegan Vixen” and we are digging the darker hair on her. What do you think Cali crowd? Do you love her vegan bag? We sure do!

Kristin Cavallari’s Shoe Sells Out on ShoeDazzle

Is former “Hills” star Kristen Cavallari following in co-stars Lauren Conrad and Whitney Port’s designing footsteps? It may seem so and with a magic touch. Cavallari partnered with accessory membership site ShoeDazzle in May to produce a hot pink ruffled jute wedge she named “The Bardot” back. It certainly proved to be the “it” style for summer as the company recently confirmed that the shoe was completely sold out.
Kristin Cavallari's ShoeDazzle Bardot Wedge

The Bardot designed by Kristin Cavallari

“Kristin’s stylish shoe was one of the best-selling Celebrity Designed Shoes that ShoeDazzle has produced to date,” Chief Operating Officer Deborah Benton released in a statement. “We are overjoyed to make a generous contribution to such a wonderful charity” With 100% of the proceeds from the sale of shoe going to Cavallari’s choice of charity OneKid OneWorld and an additional $5 for every new user signing up with a special promo code, it seems the reality star helped make quite a heavty donation.
“I am thrilled that ShoeDazzle’s clients loved my ‘Bardot’ espadrille,” Cavallari added. “Not only do women look great wearing the shoe, but they feel good knowing they helped a child in need.” OneKid OneWorld aims at changing the lives of children around the globe through education and athletic activities.
If you were lucky enough to snag this style we suggest pairing it with a cute summer dress or jean cutoff shorts and a breezy tank. Perfect for summer.
ShoeDazzle is an online membership club that sells designer like shoes and handbags at competitive prices. Several times a year they feature a product from their “Celebrity Shoe Design Program for Charity” where a well known stylish celeb helps design a shoe and picks the charity who will recieve all of the profits from the sale. Past partnerships include actresses Kristen Bell, Kristin Chenoweth and Jenny McCarthy. Next up on their list is Carmen Electra whose electic blue glitter platform pump will benefit non profit LA charity OneVoice.

SHAPEWEAR Intimates – MAIDENFORM

SHAPEWEAR Intimates – MAIDENFORM

It’s not like I am still trying to be 20, but to look anything like it would be a dream come true. Being fitted by experts who fit intimates for the stars before hitting the red carpet was a dream for my 14-month-post-partum figure. For someone that really isn’t that impressed with shape wear or girdles of any kinds, I can tell you whatever your ‘problem’ area may be, the Maidenform Shapewear is extremely comfortable and silky smooth. Dating back to the 1920’s, Maidenform can be found anywhere (JCPenny/Macy’s). Manyhigh-ends try to compete with this product, but not being able to breathe seems to be the common thread of reviews. It is truly the most amazing, everyday wear control that is lightweight, easy to wash and claims to be and anti-cellulite shaper. Even if you are like me and fearful of wearing this type of underwear, I challenge the novice to try the Flexees® Easy-Up® Strapless Full Slip (pictured above). www.shapewear.com

Blow Dry Bar – W Hollywood

Blow Dry Bar – W Hollywood

Blo Dry Bar

Hollywood: it’s the star-studded city we praise for it’s talent, it’s thriving nightlife, it’s unmatched glamour and it’s vintage spirit. But just when you thought Tinseltown had rolled out with every bit of glitz possible, last February the W Hollywood joined forces with Canadian-based tress tamers, Blo — Blow Dry Bar.
It’s pink at first sight as first-timers and blow out veterans are whisked into a posh paradise — complete with over-sized images of aptly coiffed Hollywood bombshells on the walls (Audrey H. and Marilyn M.) and hot pink menu featuring $33 treatments. The Blo mantra, “no cut, no color, just wash, blow, go.” Once in the stylists hot seat, a seven page menu is placed before you, displaying hairdo’s akin to the famous Kardashian sisters, a Lauren Conrad copycat look (the Boho braid), all over curls (Hugs, Sexy & Rock n’ Roll) and red carpet ready updo’s. If you ever wanted to feel like a celebrity, this is the place to do it.

Blo is a humble space, but nothing is humble at the atmosphere or the tone. It’s Hollywood after all and image is everything. And no doubt, glam seekers will experience a seamless carry through of the Blo spirit throughout the locale from sexy lucite chairs, shiny accents, gilded mirrors to pink flatirons, perfectly rolled towels and a small, but enticing retail space, where you’ll find all the “musts” for a marvelous mane — satin pillow cases, the brand’s own hair care line (Busy Body Shampoo, Freshman Whipped Cream Conditioner), Moroccan oil, Blo t-shirts and Mini Aerogel. According to the Blo Bosses, Mini Aerogel is a lifesaver with style memory that keeps your locks in place all night.

The Queen Bee (hive) or Master Franchise Partner, Lindsay Gartner — a vision of perfection with to-die-for hair, is quick to share that, “Blo is an affordable luxury.” And you have her word on that. When you book at Blo, whether it’s a $33 blowout (in and out in 30 minutes) or opt for Blo’s ‘Hidden Assets’ (100% real hair clip-in extensions) you’ll leave
looking and feeling like a real “it girl.” Lindsay goes on to say that, “Perfect hair equals perfect confidence.”
And since Blo is “shacking up” with the W, you can get blown dry in the comfort of your own suite.  Does it get much better than that? Sure does. Go have a look in the mirror.

Colorist to the Elite – Michael Canale

Colorist to the Elite – Michael Canale

From riches to rags and back again seems to be the ebbs and flow of recession talk. We have money one day, lose it all the next…but no matter who we are, somehow there always seems just enough in the cookie jar to care for our mane.

Michael Canale

From New York to San Francisco we all have our stories and somehow it usually involves money. However Michael Canalé, one of Hollywood’s most sought-after and successful colorist, is truly the lead colorist to the elite. He has truly branded himself to be one of the most sought after colorists in the nation. Michael did not find his profession in color by accident; however truly miraculous it turned out to be. A Math and Science Major at Cal State Northridge and a Master Bridge Player 30 years back, Michael mastered the business and analytical side of his success. Falling into the color world was not quite what he had planned for his life, but Michael Canalé changed
the flashy blonde industry to what we know today — more subtle and natural blondes.

Clients like Farah Fawcett and Morgan Fairchild were some of the big names to trust him with their manes, but the Reagan’s and Clinton Administration established his national reputation to not follow the trends, to support his trade. He is best known for being Jennifer Aniston’s long time colorist, and has been called on celebs, models and industry elite. Part of his claim to fame is his keen ability to correct damaged hair, leaving clients with gorgeous and healthy hair.
Michael has been a mentor to hundreds in his field, but no one has been personally trained by him like his protégé, Edna. Edna is his head colorist who started on the floor with him 10 years earlier as his assistant. At the time she was barely able to clearly speak English.  However, Edna was loyal, dependable, and talented and Michael
trusted her with his career. The two of them travel monthly to DC to NYC and back to Beverly Hills and Malibu to his San Diego base in Rancho. He packs in 45 clients per day starting at 7:00 a.m. and flowing into the evening. He and Enda take back-to-back clients in a flurry of work that his staff calls “insane”.
His wife and two kids support him at home as he becomes more eager to grow his empire to work less and spend more time with his family. Michael is a businessman and an incredibly smart and savvy investor, as he is founder for products that help his market grow and expand.

The Men of Skincare

The Men of Skincare

Not to sound trite or cliché but do we live in a time and space where looks matter. If you want to look your best then you’ve got to invest some time, money and energy into your skin. It’s the first thing people see, it’s the first thing YOU see when you look in the mirror and it holds a wealth of information about your state of mind and body. Have you been getting enough sleep, drinking enough water, exercising, practicing balance, and managing stress? All is evident in the lines, texture and tone of the skin on your face.

We decided to get to know two Hollywood skin care experts — both are youngish men who have a passion for helping us look our best. However one is dedicated to organic skin care and the other has flourished with conventional methods. Besides their difference in opinion in regards to organic versus chemical, they have the most vastly different personalities for two attractive men, living in Hollywood and working in skin care. First up is Josh Rosebrook, the absolute sweetest, most gentle man on earth — hailed from the crunchy capital, Portland, Oregon, Josh has dedicated his time outside of the hair salon to developing earth friendly solutions to our skin care dilemmas. Marc Edward is exactly what you would expect from a West Hollywood esthetician — a fussy talkaholic who knows exactly what you need to look your best. We genuinely adore them both, and hope you too can appreciate both of their views on skin care.

Josh Rosebrook

Josh has been researching and studying skin care for over 17 years. He started to make his own products at home because he couldn’t find really good organic exfoliators with the right sized granuals.

He started making exfoliator at home and adding botanical extracts. That led to developing a formula that got his friends talking about how great his skin was looking. He began to share with them and then they were being asked by their friends and co-workers about what they were doing. It became a grass roots, snowball effect and everybody wanted Josh’s exfoliator.
The exfoliator is now on the market and it works on two levels, the finely ground walnut shell granules will slough off dead skin cells and the enzymes in the product go to a deeper level of exfoliation. The exfoliant has a honey base that is filled with vitamins, nutrients and enzymes. There are a huge number of botanical extracts — including neem leaf, yucca root and fennel powder in the exfoliant. These are very powerful herbs that are not chemically processed so they are retaining their natural potency. They are steam distilled to retain all of their vitamins and nutrients. The more botanical extracts that you can have in your product then the more vitamins, nutrients, and anti-aging elements you’ll be able to benefit from.

Josh believes that we are natural, our bodies are natural and everything to keep them youthful and vital can be found in the herbs and plants of the earth. Part of Josh’s philosophy is that he doesn’t believe in one miracle ingredient. He believes that just like a healthy diet, we need a multitude of fats, nutrients and protein to keep us looking our best.

Josh also has a new mask on the market and he says, “My cacao mask is very powerful”. The mask is a cacao base, which is cocoa packed with flavonols. Flavonols are an extremely powerful antioxidant. Research has shown that when cacao has been taken internally that it stimulates blood circulation in the skin. When that is happening all of your skin cells are being nourished with vitamins and nutrients, fatty acids and enzymes and oxygen. It renews the skin and jump starts collagen production while smoothing the surface of the skin. The mask shrinks pores, and, like the exfoliator, all of the ingredients are certified organic or wild crafted.

Marc Edward

Marc Edward is also one of our favorite people although his personality and philosophy are vastly different that Josh’s. Marc is one of the best aestheticians around and his facials will leave you looking great! He has recently expanded his West Hollywood spa and launched his own skincare line. His new spa is much more specious and imparts a feeling of luxurious pampering. You feel confident that he will help you look better as you settle into the hands of an expert.

As you enter the facial treatment suite, you see a variety of different machines including the Hydra Facial Machine, which uses a vacuum to suck up old skin cells while it infuses moisturizing serum into the skin. It’s a huge treat to your skin and you will experience immediate results.

Marc also developed his own line of skincare with a dermatologist. The concept behind their skincare line was to eliminate the need to wear makeup. The line is designed to bring out your best so that just a light dusting of powder and you’ll be good to go. Like Josh, Marc emphasizes the importance of exfoliation and cell turnover. After exfoliants, the next most important component is antioxidants. We are all exposed to the elements and antioxidants are our defense. He also touts the importance of serums and says that our moisturizer evaporates after just two hours and by putting a serum underneath, you’ll expand the longevity of your moisturizer.

Marc is pro-preservatives in skincare products. He feels that these preservatives maintain the integrity and the shelf life of the products. With humor, he reminds us that even arsenic is natural and that will kill us. Maybe one day he and Josh can get together and have a debate about skin care while sipping on Columbian coffee and herbal tea.

The Importance of Exfoliating
Conventional or organic, everyone agrees on the incredible importance of exfoliating. If you don’t exfoliate then you are leaving massive amounts of dead skin on the top layer of your skin and you are essentially wasting your serum and moisturizer since it will not penetrate beneath that layer of dead skin. To get through and deep into the dermis, you have to constantly exfoliate so that all of your nutrients, amino acids, enzymes, minerals and vitamins can be fully absorb into your skin. Exfoliating also smoothes your skin and brightens your complexion so do not neglect this step from your skincare routine.

Vieve Boutique
Vieve Boutique is the one-stop shop for one-of-a-kind and unique hard to find designer accessories. The designers and brands featured in the store are rare finds on the West Coast. Genavieve thinks out of the box when buying for her store and makes a point of including designers with a strong identity and refreshing concepts that are seldom sold in local stores.

Nation Ltd
Los Angeles, California
One white t-shirt changed everything for Designer Jen Menchaca! After working with David Kelly Production for 6 years, Jen Menchaca decided to start on a new path designing t-shirts. She founded Nation Ltd in 2005 with a basic line which has now expanded into a full collection, which keeps her busy, full time. Her inspiration for creating the line was her father’s signature look, a worn, white v-neck t-shirt that he used to wear around the house to do handy work. Because she wanted to recreate her dad’s favorite t-shirt in a clean fitted way she designed these shirts that she describes as “second skin comfortable.”

All of the t-shirts in her line have no graphics and are very simple and soft in their look and feel. They are perfectly affordable, ranging in price from $55 to $120. L.A. celebrities love her t-shirts and they are seen around town worn by Jennifer Aniston, Heidi Klum, Kate Hudson and Kim Kardashian. Her clothes can be found at Intermix, Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus. www.nationltd.com

Román Salon
Sheri Romàn, owner of Romàn Salon on La Cienega in West Hollywood, worked at Art Luna as a senior colorist for 17 years before she made the decision to open her own salon 3 years ago. She and her husband chose the salon’s location because “the space felt right and she loved the courtyard.” Sheri also liked the fact that it feels like it is a hidden jewel, since it is slightly tucked away and you can’t tell it is there from the outside. The space is large, occupying two floors and featuring a beautiful courtyard. The look and feel is clean and classy. It is absolutely perfect for hosting bridal parties or luncheons since it is so spacious. Her goal of creating long-term, happy clients has paid off and she has an extensive list of loyal clients, who love the salon and would never think of going elsewhere. Celebrities love her salon as well, and her many celebrity clients include Ellen DeGeneres, Portia de Rossi, Rebecca Gayhart and Marissa Miller. The salon is open Monday through Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information on Salon Roman visit www.romansalonla.com

Kimberly McDonald: Beyond Diamonds
New York City-based designer Kimberly McDonald was the curator of a fine jewelry collection for 11 years when she realized that something was missing. “There was nothing that was bespoke, organic, chic and stylish that appealed to me,” McDonald, who claims to be inspired by the life, energy and beauty of nature, admits. “I began working with some of the materials that I loved and tried mixing rough and fine in a way that had not been done before.” McDonald’s steadfast belief in that fine jewelry is meant to be personal that its wearer connects with. “It is a talisman,” she says.
“Mass produced jewelry for the sake of consumption, to me, is the opposite of luxury. It’s common and lacks character.”

BATH & BODY WORKS:
Glams up Vanilla with Vanilla Noir Line While vanilla may have the reputation of being a pedantic, almost common scent, mass merchant Bath & Body Works is upping vanilla’s luxurious quotient with its spicy, warm and ultra-glam new Vanilla Noir collection, which features Signature Luxe products.

MEREDITH KAHN:
Made Her Think’s Romantic, Rock ‘n Roll Edge
Brooklyn-based jewelry designer (and new mom) Meredith Kahn may live on the East Coast, but the rebelliously and roughly romantic accessories of her Made Her Think line have created a sensation on the left coast.“It’s ironic because I definitely think MHT is more popular in L.A. than in New York,” Kahn, who effectively merges feminine touches with edgy chic because she thinks girls and women today feel more empowered than ever.

Bye Bye Jet Lag: My Blend Anti-Jet Lag Relief Emergency Booster by Clarins: A Must Have For Fashionable Travelers Ugh, nothing is worse on skin — no matter if your skin type is dry, oily, normal or combination — than stale, recirculated, airplane air! Due to chronobiological stresses — that’s fancy speak for too cold or too hot cabins, lack of movement and no fresh air — skin is always parched and dehydrated during and after a lengthy, continental or transoceanic flight so chic skin and make up brand Clarins has launched MyBlend, a customizable skincare system aimed to address individual needs, thanks to the research conducted by Dr. Olivier Courtin. You can combat the dreaded, moisture drought that comes with travelling and never be dry again thanks to the company’s My Blend Anti-Jet Lag Relief Emergency Booster cream, which is a mega-concentrated, ultra-enriched formula that comes packaged in a nifty little syringe, is meant to be injected into your Essential 4 My Blend Day and/or Night Crème Formula, which works at the deepest cellular level to combat the signs of aging. The booster cream is a restorative product and is not only for starlets being stalked by the paparazzi as they deplane at LAX, but for the businessperson, the sightseer or anyone who hates the way their skin feels after a long flight. Because of this formula, traveling no longer has to do a number on your poor, sensitive skin!

A note of caution, though! The booster is sorta like what you get at Jamba Juice. You don’t toss back the free shot of a protein boost.

You mix it into your smoothie. The same principle applies here: you inject a shot into your MyBlend and viola! Moisturized, glowing and firm skin is yours! In the Hoodie

In the Hoodie

Two LA-based designers bring fashion forward flair to the basic hoodie

Avril Lavigne may have popularized the zip up hoodie, but go to any urban center or suburban mall and you’ll find ladies and gents of all ages sporting hoodies emblazoned with the name of their favorite band or some subversive saying. A hoodie is a quintessential comfort clothing item, but Los Angeles-based designers Ali Barone and Violet Valen are elevating this wardrobe basic to more fashionable levels.

Barone launched her Lipstick Prophets line of hoodies after she shuttered Stiletto Killers, the fashion company she launched with Kelly Osbourne. Lipstick Prophets hoodies feature oversized hoods, thick zippers and a youthful, form-fitting silhouette but the line has also manufactured skirts, jackets, leggings and tees. Barone focused on loungewear, as opposed to high fashion garments because of the “unfortunate” Los Angeles fashion scene, where she noticed so many people bumming around in unstylish sweats. LP hoodies are designed to prevent women from looking frumpy while running errands. “It’s so easy to slap a graphic on a blank, pre-fab hoodie,” Barone muses.

“I wanted to re-invent the hoodie and make it more girlie and fitted specially for gals. They look great on girls of all sizes.” Barone, who is inspired by music and her friends, who often don’t even realize they are inspiring and indirectly collaborating with her, admits a friend calls her LP hoodie her “girdle,” saying, “Not because it’s tight but because it is so slimming.” In ’09, Barone will issue striped shirts in 4-color ways but she plans to steer away from graphic tees in favor of working with textured fabrics and a dress collection. She finishes, “The first thing LP ever did was a pair of Capri sailor pants. I love the loungewear but I am looking towards dresses and jackets. I guess I am maturing or something. Or bored.” Visit www.lipstickprophets.com and check out the company’s eponymous, 16-page lifestyle mag, which replaces a standard catalogue.

Valen, on the other hand, custom-designs her intricate and styled hoodies that feature teddy bear cut outs that are more uniquely chic than they are cute. “Right now, I hand make every piece,” the designer admits. “I pre-cut and wash all my patches and patterncut and hand-dye the hoodies. They all require tons of hand sewing so when I’m preparing a new collection, I will be sewing 6 hours a day.” Valen, a native of downtown L.A., was inspired to do this signature Buddy Sweatshirt while in college and working as a nanny. Rather than slouch around in a wardrobe of tees and jeans, she began to customize her precious hoodies and admits, “Nannying also inspired a creative, playfulness in my sewing. I wanted to incorporate my love of teddy bears and this was the result.” Valen’s hoodies are made from fabrics and bears she unearths while scouring vintage shops in her home city, which she proudly states that there is more to the city “than plastic surgery and traffic jams.” She cuts the bears up, two-dimensionalizes them and works them into a hoodie that she deems “wearable art” that’s not for everyone. Fashionistas who appreciate quirk will nab Valen’s hoodies. She is currently working on finding a manufacturer that will allow her to produce them on a wider scale.
